Query: G.N.I.S.

Small town on U. S. Highway 395 at the south end of Owens Lake. The Olanches, obviously a Shoshonean village or band south of Owens Lake, were mentioned by Taylor in 1860. The name appears for a settlement, south of Owens Lake, known as Olanche on Farley's map od 1861. The name of the town is recorded on the Land Office maps of the 1870's (Gudde, 1969).
