Eastern Mojave Vegetation San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth drill site, Monterey County, California.

Gazetteer

Query:

The path of the drill, projected to the surface of the earth, is east northeast. I don't think there is a public road along the San Andreas Fault to that location.

Carpenter et al. (2012) reported on frictional properties and sliding stability of the San Adreas fault from a deep core obtained by the San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth (SAFOD). They found that the fault is extremely weak (friction coefficient, µ = ~ 0.10), and anomalously low rates of frictional healing, consistent with aseismic creep.

Elevation: 2192ft, 668m.
