Variant name "Reynolds." When the Santa Fe line form Cadiz was build in 1909 the station was named Randolph, In 1912 the present name (from Spanish sablon, "gravel") was applied.

Possibly named after a gold mine operated by Mexican citizens in the Turtle Mountains in the 1880’s
