Cimarron is an unincorporated community and U.S. Post Office in Montrose County, Colorado, United States. The Cimarron Post Office has the ZIP Code 81220.
Cimarron is located along the Cimarron River, just south of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and just outside Curecanti National Recreation Area. The D & RG Narrow Gauge Trestle crosses the Cimarron River gorge just northeast of town, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (later the Denver & Rio Grande Western) operated a narrow-gauge line through Cimarron in August 1896. The track through Cimarron was established by 1882 to carry supplies and ore through the Black Canyon.The railroad's operations in Cimarron included a roundhouse, a helper engine station, and a hotel, making it a critical hub for mountain train crews
