Festuca thurberi Vasey.  Thurber's Fescue.

Unnamed Gulch on Forest Road 189, Lake County, Colorado. About 55 m. southwest of Forest Road 189, about 1 km. west of County Road 18 “East Tennessee Road,” 7.37 km. north northwest of the GNIS location of Leadville. Openings in aspen forest, mixed with patches of big sagebrush and willows. 39.2985°N, 106.31733°W. WGS 1984 Elev. 3092 m. Tall cespitose grass in bloom. Between patches of Artemisia tridentata, with Agoseris aurantiaca, Taraxacum ceratophorum, Geum triflorum, Eriocoma lettermanii, and Festuca idahoensis.

No. 3345, 24 July 2024, characters observed: Perennial grass, to 60 cm., cespitose; Leaves, sheath, open, ligule, membranous, 5 mm., bifid, auricles, 0, blade, 25 cm. × 1 mm. wide, involute, glabrous, but white-spotted; Inflorescence, 1 per culm, <leaves, panicle, 95 mm. × 65 mm. wide, #3 branches; Rachis, not extended, plumose hairy; Spikelets, many, 11 mm. × 2.6 mm. wide, similar, borne singly, stalked, pedicels 1.5-3.0 mm.; Compression, unremarkable; Disarticulation, between florets; Glumes, lower, 3.7 mm., veins, #1, upper, 4 mm., veins, #3, <lowest floret, colors green to purple to scarious, awns, 0; Florets, 4 per spikelet, Axis (within the spikelet), extended beyond upper floret; Lemma, 6.8 mm. >glumes, rolled, glabrous, veins, #5, glabrous, tip, acute to 0.2 mm. awn; Palea, 6.3 mm., <lemma; Anthers, 4 mm., purple.
