Coal Creek Canyon Study Area, Lacey Parcel, Jefferson County, Colorado. North side of Coal Creek, south-facing bank between Colorado State Highway 72 “Coal Creek Canyon Road” and the creek, 1.47 km. northwest of Coal Creek Fire Station #3, 1.51 km. north northwest of Golden. 39.87947°N, 105.29293°W. WGS 1984 Elev. 2060 m. Leaf margin and abaxial midrib prickly; flowers yellow, cypselae 4-6 nerves per face. Openings in Pinus ponderosa woodland, with Artemisia ludoviciana, Penstemon virens, Eriogonum arcuatum, Cercocarpus montanus, Acer glabrum, Bouteloua gracilis, and Koeleria macrantha,
