Valley in western Nevada, near Mono Lake. As described by the Geographic Names Information System, it is 19.2 km (12 mi) long and 4.8 km (3 mi) wide Arch-shaped, containing Larkin Lake; the north end is located 4.8 km (3 mi) southwest of Powell mountain, and the southwest end is located west of the Nevada-California boundary. The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources splits the valley into a northern portion, containing Alkali Lake, and a southern portion extending into California to Larkin Lake. Russell (1889) refers to the southern portion as Aurora Valley and gives no name for the northern portion, while being clear it did not contain water of Pleistocene Lake Russell. The Toyiabe National Forest map refers to the southern portion as Alkali Valley, and the northern portion as Aurora Valley.
