614 Ivy St.

House at 614 Ivy St.

Text on back, probably in Olga's handwriting:

"Our winter home, 614 Ivy St.. The Bever house, now lived in by Prof. & Mrs. Rice.

"This is the front view from northwest corner. Sidewalk, where I took picture, is about six feet lower than bottom front step.

"Glassed corner is sunroom on west side."

I assume that the location is either Bellingham or Yakima, Washington, but I have been unable to find that address. It's possible the house is in Redlands, California, but the address does not exist there, either.

Photograph assumed to be taken in late 1940s, or early 1950s.

The order of this photograph in the photo album would imply 1946. However, I am putting it with other photos from 1948 in Bellingham.

The Panama Hotel in Seattle's International District.

Photographed 17 August 2018.

The Panama Hotel is known for the rich Japanese American history before and during World War II. The hotel is known for housing the belongings of the Japanese families in Seattle once Executive Order 9066 was enacted and the evacuation of Japanese to internment camps. After the Japanese American internment, most of the Seattle-based families were not able to return due to death, financial constraints, and relocation; their belongings still reside in the basement of the hotel. It is also known as being the namesake of the novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (WikiPedia).
